ATTN Linux & Unix Clients: Update your dedicated server software immediately

There is a recently-announced major security exploit.  Due to the severity rating of this vulnerability, we are informing all Petronella Technology Group, Inc. clients to encourage you to update your dedicated server software immediately.

This vulnerability affects all implementations of the Domain Name System (DNS) server Bind, which runs on your server and provides name resolution for your hosted domains. It potentially allows any remote attacker to disable your Bind DNS server which could cause an interruption in your Web, Email, and other services.

Fixing this vulnerability requires updating your "bind" packages and restarting the service.

For most installations, we can typically resolve the issue within 15 minutes.  Some custom or more complex installations require more time.

Alternatively, you may wish to backup and perform a full software package update on your server at this time. Petronella Technology Group, Inc. recommends performing full software package updates at least on a quarterly basis.
