Hacking Concerns Prompt Fiat Chrysler Recall

Blog Post

Fiat Chrysler announced this past Friday that they would be recalling just over 7,800 SUVs in the US over concerns that the radio software could allow hackers to take over a vehicle.

This is on the heels of another recall the company announced a little over a month ago wherein almost a million and a half vehicles were recalled to patch software that allowed hackers to commandeer the radio, engine, steering and more.  The hacking capabilities were demonstrated by researchers, though no other car hacking incidents are known.

Over half of the vehicles under the recall are still with dealers, which should make updating the software in the SUVs a good deal easier and pervasive.  Still, with self-driving cars seemingly just around the corner, this raises a lot of safety concerns for future automobiles.
