Florida-based business, Southeast Eye Institute, P.A. (d.b.a. Eye Associates of Pinellas) reported that as many as 87,314 individuals may have had  personal information stolen. This includes names, addresses, phone numbers, D.O.B., SSN, and insurance information.

Eye Associates of Pinellas was using medical software designed by, Bizmatics, a third-party provider.

Bizmatics notified Eye Associates on March 30, 2016, a  that an unauthorized individual was able to breach their system in January 2016, and possibly access private patient information. Bizmatics was not able to decipher which patients had been compromised and they were not aware of the breach until March, at which time they notified their client immediately.

Although Southeast Eye Institute is no longer a client, Bizmatics is taking steps to  correct the problem. They are providing potential victims with one year of free identity protection and credit monitoring. Additionally, the software company has hired an outside firm to strengthen their cybersecurity.
