Hacked Colonial Pipeline May Get Partial “Refund” on Ransom

In Hackers’ News that NOBODY expected, hacked pipeline giant, Colonial Pipeline, might be getting back a good portion of the almost $5 million ransom they paid last month to the Russian cyberterrorist group, DarkSide.

Turns out that notifying the FBI early on in the matter might just have been the right step to take, as US investigators were able to recover millions in bitcoins.

Not much is currently known, but one thing is for sure… recovering ANY of your ransom is extraordinarily rare and the best way to fight against ransomware is to prevent an attack from occurring in the first place.
